Atsila Anotasgi Cultural Specialist (Temporary, Part-Time)

Compensation:
This is a part-time, temporary position. The compensation begins at $12/hour.
• Six-month period
• 20 hours maximum weekly

Purpose/Role:
• Enhance visitors’ experiences at the Museum of the Cherokee Indian and throughout the cultural district of Cherokee.

Responsibilities/ Tasks:
• Present cultural programs for Museum visitors on-site, programs for Cherokee Experience groups at the Museum, and programs throughout the area.
• Lead group tours through the Museum exhibit.
• Share information about Cherokee history and culture in structured programs, informally with visitors, and at special events.
• Demonstrate various Cherokee artforms throughout the Museum, and in Cherokee when assigned.
• Research Cherokee history, culture, and craft.
• Follow the Atsila Anotasgi dress code.
• Be courteous and helpful at all times when with the public.

Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications:
• A demonstrated commitment to preserve and protect the history, culture, and stories of the Cherokees.
• Experience in and commitment to working in a team-oriented environment.
• Proactive, warm, and welcoming, professional presence with the public.
• Knowledge of Cherokee history and culture is required and will be supplemented with training.
• Two-week new hire training is required.
• Ability to speak publicly and work with the public are essential.
• Knowledge of Cherokee crafts, or willingness to learn, is necessary.
• Ability to perform and/or willingness to learn traditional songs, stories, and dances are required, and will be supplemented with training.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends, when necessary.
• General understanding of customer service and visitor service concepts.
• Willingness to learn all aspects of Museum and facility processes.

Other:
• Reports to Lead Cultural Specialist within the Education Department.
• Other duties as assigned.
