The Museum of the Cherokee Indian offers a range of on-site and virtual programming and events designed to support the Museum’s mission to preserve and perpetuate the history, culture, and stories of the Cherokee people.


Confluence: An Indigenous Writers’ Workshop Series

Created in partnership with author and MCI board member Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians), Confluence: An Indigenous Writers’ Workshop Series offers citizens of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and other federally recognized tries access to high-quality writing instruction from the world’s top Indigenous writers at no cost.

Made possible through the generous support of North Carolina Arts Council and Fire Mountain Trails, the series will host four visiting writers with expertise in four different genres: the series will feature four visiting writers with expertise in four different genres: Kelli Jo Ford (Cherokee Nation), teaching literary fiction; Andrea L. Rogers (Cherokee Nation), teaching fiction; Mary Leauna Christensen (EBCI), teaching poetry, and Rebecca Nagle (Cherokee Nation), teaching journalism.

This Community Learning opportunity is offered to citizens of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and other federally-recognized tribes, but will be opened to the public if not filled. Each workshop takes place over three days in the Multipurpose Room of the Museum of the Cherokee Indian with lunch provided. Each workshop is limited to a maximum of 15 participants. Interested writers can register here.
